Discovering and learning more about Māori culture, way of life and spiritual beliefs, especially in this region where geothermal activities have shaped the lifestyle, was something deep and strong. A must do experience!
Stop the car! We've driven past here many, many times over the years on road trips and finally stopped! It was BRILLIANT! A young tour guide who really knew her history, not just of the village, but tikanga and te ao māori. A fabulous walk through the village talking about day to day live. We were shown their marae, churches, gardens, urupa, how they cook and bathe, learnt history of the village and Rotorua while stopping at various points around the village. Even had sweetcorn cooked in a hot pool. It was a fascinating insight to daily normal life. Thrilled to have seen the geysers in full flight. The show was spectacular. Great walk around the thermal areas afterwards. Highly recommend. Bookme easy to use!
Such a wonderful tour we had, so much information and gave an insight into the wonderful culture and community who live there
We had a wonderful walk around the bubbling geothermal hot pools followed by a tour around whakarewarera village. Our tour guide was incredible, a born story teller. Both moving and insightful. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to learn a little bit more about Aotearoas history, heritage and culture.
